A machine can report that it is running while producing the wrong part. A quality result can be recorded without preventing a failed unit from progressing. An order can appear complete while units remain in rework.

The data may be accurate, but the process it represents may not be.

What Execution Control Does

Execution control systems:

  • Validate the order, product, and operation before work begins

  • Enforce routing and process sequence

  • Verify materials, components, and resources

  • Require quality checks before progression

  • Control production state transitions

  • Capture events within the context of controlled workflows

This creates more than a record of activity.

It creates a production record tied to how the product was actually executed.

A reliable record starts with a controlled process

When execution is not controlled:

  • WIP visibility becomes unreliable

  • Traceability must be reconstructed

  • Quality depends on manual compliance

  • Rework can occur outside the production record

  • ERP status can drift from shop-floor reality

More data does not solve these problems.

If routing, validation, quality, and state transitions are not enforced as work occurs, downstream systems are left to interpret what happened after the fact.

Execution control establishes the process first. The resulting data then becomes a reliable representation of production.
